Kozmic, the psychedelic graphics generator
for the Atari ST range of computers has
earned me about £1000 in shareware fees.
As a gesture to Atari users who haven't
yet changed to a different system, I am
distributing these two 720K disks to PD
Libraries and Bulletin Boards.
The software on these two disks amounts
to about at least four disk's worth.
There are several levels of packing and
file compression to save space. The first
level is Pk ZIP. There wasn't room on the
disks to supply any unzipping utility so
PD/Shareware Libraries will have to use
their own copies of ST ZIP (or other
program) to unzip the files.
The ZIP method of compression is compatible
with both Atari ST and IBM PCs. On the Atari
I use ST Zip; on the PC I use Drag and Zip.
Reasonably skilled owners of Atari computers
may be able to use these disks directly as
long as they have an unzipping program and
preferably a Hard Disk or at least a large
Ram Disk set up.
Disk distributers (PD libraries) should
really unzip the files to recreate working
disks as described next. Once the unzipping
is done, all further depacking is automatic
when Kozmic is run. There are some Self-
Extracting Archives of images, too. Full
documentation is supplied in readme files.
As of today, Thursday 1 September 1994,
KOZMIC is freeware and no charges should
be made for its distribution other than
the normal copying fees.
The file KOZMIC4.ZIP when unzipped, will
expand to create all the files necessary
to run KOZMIC 4.
All the files will fit on a Double Density
disk but only if it is first formatted to
82 tracks by 10 sectors per track. To do
this use FCOPY or any other utility with
this option - (there's more than one
available from Shareware or Public Domain
libraries).
Use a good quality branded disk. Remember
that FCOPY and other formatting utilities
often consider the first track to be zero
rather then one (0 not 1). If this is the
case then tracks 0 through 81 = 82 tracks.
In case you're not sure, a Double Density
or DD disk only has one hole whereas a
High Density (HD) disk has two. DD is the
normal type for the ST and they're usually
formatted to 80 tracks (0 through 79) by
9 sectors per track giving 720K of space.
Kozmic 4 needs a litte more space, hence
the need for formatting to 82 by 10.
All the following files must be in a
folder called KOZMIC_4
KOZMIC_4.PRG 136538 bytes Main program
K4_TITLE.MBK 17938 bytes Title screen
KOZMIC_4.MBS 210510 bytes Memory banks
_K_12K_2.AVR 387913 bytes Stereo sounds
KOZMIC.KEY 79 bytes Unlocks registered features
READ_ME.TXT 7987 bytes Instructions, history etc.
Mega ST users should delete the above version of KOZMIC_4.PRG
which is 136538 bytes in length and substitute the version
contained in the file KOZ4MEGA.ZIP - this version is 136614
bytes in length and is 'fixed' for Mega-compatibility. It may
work on standard STFMs / STEs but then again it might not...
The remaining ZIP file is KOZ4XTRA.ZIP which contains the following:
K4BUTTNS.ASC Manual in plain ASCII text
K4BUTTNS.DOC " " 1st Word WP format
3 read-me files
ZONK.PRG Read the readme files!
4 Self-extracting archives of compressed pictures
All software is Hard Disk compatible. The only restriction is that
the Kozmic 4 program files are in a folder called KOZMIC_4 and that
the partition is from C: through H: as I: and up ain't recognised.
